Which 802.11g PCMCIA card work for Debian ?

Dear All :

I want to install Debian into my IBM notebook and use Wireless LAN card.

Besides the possible config problem which I mayl be facing, the first step is to buy a 802.11g PCMCIA wireless LAN card for my notebook.

There are a lot of PCMCIA wireless LAN card in computer shop,

Taiwan make : Cnet CWC-854 PCMCIA, Sercom IP-WLAN-54, Surecom EP-9428-gp ...etc.

Others: 3COM, Level one, Bufferlo ...etc.

but I do not know which PCMCIA wireless LAN card will work on Debian.

Can any one give me some suggestion ?

3Com is good but a little bit expensive.

I use ndiswrapper and work perfectly.

ndiswarpper package for debian:

As I plan to install Debian - testing not Sid

我自己使用了一陣子, 偶會發生當機的狀況, 不管是在 Linux or Windows, 有懷疑過是 driver 的問題, 但現在覺得是我的 NB 跟它不相容的感覺, 只是還沒找到證據.

在google上查了一下,是日商久森(PANEX) GW-NS54GMX
看起來好像是用prism54這個driver..

目前應該會買這便宜的，能省則省...

不建議購買PCMCIA的產品, 因為共通性很差(限定只能使用在NoteBook上), 而且在使用時, 容易有電磁波方向性的問題(到時候就會看到一堆人調整自己的位置在配合收訊)...

但, USB介面也不是完美的! 如果要跑802.11g 且採用USB介面的話, 那你必須是採用USB 2.0的機種, 不然你的最快速度就只能到達22~38MBps之間(聰明的你就會知道, 這是因為USB 1.x的速度規格問題)

如果要採購這種東西, 強烈建議你考慮以下六點:

1. 是不是大廠出品的(例如3Com)?
2. 保固有沒有問題?
3. Driver支援能力如何?
4. 東西本身運作正常與否?
5. WiFi認證是否有通過?
6. WPA支援的等級?

只要上面六點其中有一個為"否", 很抱歉, 拿去丟掉......

很多早期的基地台只能同時線上服務七個人, 現在3Com有推出能同時服務127人的便宜機種, 大家可以考慮看看唷!
(光華商場有一家還有推出, 802.11g USB card + 802.11g AP = 5x00 含稅價位, 公司用的朋友可以考慮考慮)
