How to format a new Hard disk as ReiserFS under Debian Woody

Dear All:

I have add a new Hard disk (80G) into my Debian Woody server.

I already use fdisk to partitiion it.

But I do not know how to format a new Hard disk as ReiserFS

Normally, when you can do it on Debian Woody Installation but this is not a new installation , the Hard disk is added after the system running for a long time.

Any idea ?

mkfs.reiserfs /dev/XXX

When I type "mkfs.reiserfs /dev/sda1 " , It reply "no such file or directory.

i.e. not work.

When I use man to see the mkfs command, it does not have the command mkfs.reiserfs"

What is wrong ?

I don't remember there are SCSI drives having size of 80gig, are there?

Maybe you should dmesg to check the device name of your HDD.

apt-get install reiserfsprogs

And

mkfs.reiserfs /dev/sda1 as "root".

It is better now after install reiserfsprogs.

But the command should be

"mkreiserfs /dev/sda1 "

It also come with some tools to toubleshooting the file system.

Any way , thanks for all who reply my questions.
