<p><strong>【Debian 軟體應用於 Google】</strong>
<a href="http://www.google.com/">Google</a> 的 Marc Merlin 在一篇專訪中讚譽 Debian 是所有 GNU/Linux 中擁有最全面性軟體函式庫的套件。他使用 <code>apt-get</code> 和整套的 <code>getupdates</code> 機制讓大批的伺服器保持同步。他認為這套工具可以說是其他套件甚至是 UNIX 所不曾出現過的。

<p><strong>【新版源自於 Debian 的套件】</strong>
<a href="http://www.nmxs.com/">New Mexico Software, Inc.</a> (NMXS) <a href="http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/040708/flth017_1.html">宣稱</a>他們將在今年八月三日發佈所謂的新聖塔菲桌面環境 (new Santa Fe desktop environment)，這套系統主要是以桌面應用為導向，並且是以 Debian GNU/Linux 為基底的。NMXS 的 CEO，Dick Govatski 對於這套系統的親和性頗為自豪，他說：「使用者即使不是個 Linux 高手也可輕易的使用這套系統。」他們很顯然在安裝程式及硬體偵測上花了相當大的功夫去作處理。

<p><strong>【在 Debian 上缺乏商業支援嗎?】</strong>
一篇關於在企業中採用 GNU/Linux 的<a href="http://www.itnews.com.au/storycontent.asp?ID=6&Art_ID=20436">文章</a>顯示 Debian 可能需要對他的<a href="http://www.debian.org/consultants/">商業支援</a>網頁打出一些更醒目的廣告。澳洲 Revenue 省 New South Wales Office 最近把他們的 GNU/Linux 伺服器由 Debian 轉為紅帽，他們的 CIO，Mike Kennedy 表示：「所有的廠商都說如果你想要紅帽，那麼沒問題。但是假如是 Debian 的話那就有困難了。」

David Moreno Garza <a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-desktop/2004/07/msg00000.html">表示</a>在 GMT 時間七月十八日 16:00，在 irc.debian.org 的 #debian-desktop 將舉辦一場 IRC 會議。這場會議的主要<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-desktop/2004/05/msg00025.html">觀點</a>是希望能提供使用者設定自己整套系統的功能。除了謹記可移植性的要求之外，他們計畫提供圖形模式，網頁模式，以及命令列模式三種操作介面。

<p><strong>【Exim 4 改採 BerkelyDB 4.2?】</strong>
Andreas Metzler <a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-release/2004/07/msg00015.html">問到</a>如果把 <a href="http://packages.debian.org/exim4">Exim 4</a> 轉換到新版的 BerkelyDB 上(所謂的 <a href="http://packages.debian.org/libdb4.2">libdb4.2</a>)，是否為大家所接受。由於 Sarge 在最近就要釋出了，這樣的改變將有可能造成不被允許的延期。

<p><strong>【監控上游套件的新版本】</strong>
Stefano Fabri <a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2004/debian-devel-200404/msg06580.html">發佈成立</a>了一個網站 <a href="http://dehs.alioth.debian.org/">Debian 健康觀察 (Debian Watch Health Status)</a>，主要在為 Debian 開發者提供監控上游套件版本的服務。他<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2004/05/msg00213.html">抱怨</a>只有很少數的套件有包含適當的 <code>watch</code> 檔案來利用這項服務。Blars Blarson <a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2004/05/msg00268.html">認為</a>這也許是許多維護者並不知道這項服務的好處。

<p><strong>【Bug Squashing Party】</strong>

Martin F. Krafft <a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2004/06/msg00734.html">質疑</a>為何 <a href="http://wiki.debian.net/index.cgi?RpathIssue">rpath</a> 相關的主題未收錄進 <a href="http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/">policy manual</a>。Florian Ernst <a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2004/06/msg00740.html">提供</a>了一個<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2002/07/msg01729.html">討論串</a>和由 Richard Atterer 所作的<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2002/07/msg02030.html">摘要</a>。Goswin Brederlow 也<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2004/06/msg00755.html">補充</a>說明如果多平台架構引進的話，任何在 sarge 釋出之後使用 <code>-rpath</code> 的套件都會崩潰。

Fabio Tranchitella <a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2004/06/msg00819.html">注意到</a>有許多的 Python 模組並無標明版本而且只能使用特定版本的 Python 來執行。Matt Zimmerman <a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2004/06/msg00902.html">質疑</a>為何這些模組在安裝之後無法使用每種已安裝的 Python 版本來進行 byte-compilation。Andreas Barth 則<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2004/06/msg00927.html">解釋</a>其實根本不需要作 byte-compilation。
