<p><strong>【改良的 Debian Developer Package Overview】</strong>
Igor Genibel <a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2004/07/msg00017.html">發佈了</a>改良的 <a href="http://qa.debian.org/developer.php">packages overview</a> 網頁。目前這個網頁包含了<a href="http://dehs.alioth.debian.org/">上游套件 Watch 檔案資訊</a>以及<a href="http://bjorn.haxx.se/debian/">狀況理由分析</a>的連結。資料主要以 UTF-8 格式呈現，也可以隱藏一些資訊，另外也可利用 cookies 來進行設定。

<p><strong>【移除 Sarge 中的某些套件】</strong>
由於 Sarge 在開發上的凍結，在 <a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-release/">debian-release 通信論壇</a>上到處可見到"自 Sarge 中移除某某套件"的呼聲。通常這些套件其上游版本仍是處於開發狀態，並不是很穩定。Steve Langasek<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-release/2004/07/msg00107.html">要求</a>應該提出一份釋出上的重要臭蟲報告來詳細解釋為何某些套件不應該放到 Sarge 中。

<p><strong>【OSCON 訪談】</strong>
Jay Lyman <a href="http://www.newsforge.com/article.pl?sid=04/07/30/1436242">回顧</a>整理了一下在今年的<a href="http://conferences.oreillynet.com/os2004/">歐萊禮開放原始碼會議</a>中對三位 Debian 開發者所作的訪談。Bdale Garbee 談論社群的發展並指出大家對業餘玩家的貢獻感到驚訝，因為這實在超乎預期。Jeff Licquia 則討論了元件化的 GNU/Linux 觀念以及 Progeny 公司的開發模式。Jeff Waugh 則討論一些 GNOME 未來的發展方向。

<p><strong>【孤兒套件的新標籤 - RFH】</strong>
Frank Lichtenheld <a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2004/08/msg00000.html">公佈</a>了一個"需要幫忙(request for help)"的新標籤以便應用於 <a href="http://www.debian.org/devel/wnpp/">Work Needed and Prospective Packages</a> 當中的<a href="http://www.debian.org/devel/wnpp/help_requested">套件</a>。這個標籤主要應用的情形在於目前的維護者仍願意繼續維護套件，但是由於他本身時間上的限制或該套件過於龐大因此需要一些其他的維護者來幫忙。

<p><strong>【Sarge 釋出時間表】</strong>
Steve Langasek 張貼了一份<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2004/08/msg00001.html">更新的釋出時間表</a>。在基礎系統中仍有一些重大的臭蟲需要處理。隨著基礎系統的凍結，<a href="http://www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer/">debian-installer</a> 光碟映像檔的 RC1 版本將在其後一至二天內釋出。預計在八月八日，官方對 Sarge 的安全性支援將把重大臭蟲數降低至 100，並在九月一日將臭蟲數完全降至零，接著在九月十五日正式釋出。

<p><strong>【新的 Debian GNU/Hurd 安裝方式】</strong>
Michael Banck <a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-hurd/2004/08/msg00006.html">發表</a>了一個關於 Debian <a href="http://www.debian.org/ports/hurd/">GNU/Hurd 平台</a>的新安裝方法。他使用 Roland McGrath 早前<a href="http://www.debian.org/News/weekly/2004/10/">提到</a>的方式，以 <a href="http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/bug-hurd/2004-02/msg00108.html">xattr-hurd</a> 來支援 ext2。使用他所提供的<a href="http://people.debian.org/~mbanck/xattr-hurd/kernel-patch-xattr-hurd_20040302-3_all.deb">核心修正檔</a>和 <a href="http://packages.debian.org/testing/utils/star">star</a> 解壓縮工具，使用者可以解開這個 <a href="http://people.debian.org/~mbanck/xattr-hurd/gnu-latest.tar.bz2">base tarball</a> 並立刻得到一個可以順利運行的 Debian GNU/Hurd 系統。

<p><strong>【Sarge 中的 GNOME 2.6 狀況】</strong>
Jordi Mallach 紀錄了 GNOME 2.6 在 Sarge 中的<a href="http://oskuro.net/blog/freesoftware/gnome-2.6-sarge-2004-08-03-02-18">更新</a>狀況。<a href="http://packages.debian.org/gnome-applets">gnome-applets</a> 和一些其他較不重要而相依於 <a href="http://packages.debian.org/libgtop2">libgtop2</a> 的套件終於進入了 testing 版本。剩下最後兩個無法讓整個 GNOME 2.6 進入 testing 版本的套件分別是 <a href="http://packages.debian.org/eog">eog</a> 和 <a href="http://packages.debian.org/gnome-games">gnome-games</a>。後者可能還需要等待一段時間，因為它不斷受到一些其他變動中套件的影響。

<p><strong>【臭蟲大清掃(Bug Squashing Parties)】</strong>
隨著 Sarge 釋出的日子越來越接近，bug squashing parties 就成為一個降低重大臭蟲數目和設法穩定 <a href="http://www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer/">debian-installer</a> 的重要活動。Martin Zobel-Helas <a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-events-eu/2004/07/msg00113.html">表示</a>將在八月廿日至廿二日於德國 Darmstadt 舉辦一場 bug squashing party。歐洲和德國的 Debian 使用者都歡迎加入。

<p><strong>【Debtags 的版本和穩定度】</strong>
Enrico Zini <a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2004/08/msg00007.html">問到</a>他該如何適當的處理 debtags 所使用的函式庫。他認為 debtags 本身的程式碼已相當穩定因此準備要釋出 1.0 的版本。Andrew Suffield 則<a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2004/08/msg00020.html">表示</a>任何 Application Binary Interface(ABI) 還不穩定的分享函式庫都不應該釋出。Enrico 則對那些幫忙他打包的朋友表示謝意。

<p><strong>【 Debian 助理員簡介】</strong>
Glenn McGrath <a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2004/08/msg00054.html">質疑</a> Debian 專案是否需要一些構造上的調整，也許可以在專案領導者和維護者之間插入助理員這樣的一個角色。他認為 Debian 與其說是"冠軍團隊(champion team)"不如說是"冠軍們組成的團隊(team of champions)"，也正因如此，如果一些事務不屬於相互之間的權責範圍就變得不易處理。
