【支援 DDTP 的實驗性質 APT】 DDTP 小組和 Debian-BR 計畫[4]發表了第一個[5]支
援套件描述譯文（translated package descriptions）的 APT。這個實驗性的版本是

【自動合併設定檔】 Jarno Elonen [7]發表了[8]支援設定檔合併的實驗性質
dpkg。在已安裝的和欲安裝的套件中設定檔不同時，dpkg
會提供一個合併的選項。在更新的設定檔提供較多選定項目時，這個功能能給使用者
一些幫助。

【不再支援 i386？】 Nathanael Nerode 在[9]研究 支援 i386
的相關問題後，發現 Debian 必須要用 GCC 提供的 i486 版的
atomicity.h，才能和其它 distribution 的 C++ 套件維持相容（binary
compatibility）。Dagfinn Ilmari Manns嶡er [10]寫了一個小[11]命令稿
（script），在 P-III Mobile 上比較 i386 及 i486 版的 OpenSSL 的效能。

【Debian 套件標籤】 Enrico Zini [12]發表他與 Erich Schubert 合作建立的
Debian 套件標籤（Debian Package Tags）系統。這些標籤（或稱關鍵字、分類）可以
直接在網路上[13]修改。標籤可以視為是 Debian 使用以久的套件分類（package
sections）的進化。Enrico 在稍後發出公告說明他對工具程式做了一些[14]修改。

【支援建議安裝和推薦安裝的 apt-get？】 Alexander Wirt [15]發表一個 apt-get
的[16]前端程式（wrapper），它可以讓您安裝一個套件推薦（recommended）和（或
）建議（suggested）安裝的套件。Graham Williams [17]指出 [18]wajig
具備同樣的功能。Rene Engelhard 也[19]補充說，[20]aptitude
在互動模式下提供這個功能，並且可能在命令行下也能做到。

【Debian-Lex 訪談】 一份澳洲報章 The Age 刊載了對 [21]Debian-Lex 發起人
Jeremy Malcolm 的[22]訪問。除了參與它的母計畫的開發人員的貢獻外，有三位合格
的律師參與了這個 Debian-Lex 計畫，使得此計畫的開發融合了專業法律和資訊科技。
Malcolm 亦提及許多專為法律領域設計的專屬軟體（proprietary software）中存在的
互通性（interoperability）問題。

【增進 Debian 的可靠度】 R幦i Perrot [23]發起了關於增進 Debian
可靠度的討論。他認為更新 stable 的規則太過嚴格，導致除了安全方面的修正外，其
它的修正沒有機會被納入來增進 Debian 的品質。他認為由於發行新版本的週期很長，
應該要允許所有的錯誤修正被納入 stable 中。

【供發展者借用的 HP i2000 】 James Troup [24]發表了一份感謝聲明－由於
[25]Hewlett-Packard 的持續支持，用來編譯 Debian ia64 套件的主機（
caballero.debian.org）最近已升級為 [26]rx2600 了。因此，原先的 [27]i2000
主機將移作它用。這台主機將出借給發展 debian-installer、開發工具組
（gcc、binutils、glibc）、核心或負責其它有意義工作的開發人員。有意借用者最
好住在英國，或至少住在歐洲。欲借用者需提出先前的工作成果，或該計劃未來深具
發展潛力的證明。

【關於自由軟體中 Credits 的爭論】 由 Hans Reiser 發起，（並經由 DWN
的[28]報導）在 debian-devel 引起[29]熱烈討論的話題轉移到 Newforge
上了。事件的起因是 Debian 開發人員把 ReiserFS 工具中一些包含 sponsorship
credits 的輸出拿掉了。之後，Hans Reiser 發表了一篇[30]文章說明他的立場，以
及為什麼他認為自由軟體中的 credits 應得到更好的保障，且授權證應該要強制這項
保障的執行。不過，大部份的[31]回應都不贊同他的看法。

【Bruxelles 軟體專利會議】 Jama Poulsen [32]提及05月07日及08日在 Bruxelles

【Debian Subversion 伺服器】 Wichert Akkerman 在 [34]svn.debian.org
上[35]架設了 Debian Subversion 伺服器。欲申請使用請透過
[36]Alioth。如果您希望申請一個 subversion 檔案庫，請先在 Alioth
上註冊一個計畫。等這個計畫的申請透過後，再送一份 support request
來請管理者建立檔案庫。只要您在 Alioth 上把某人加到您的計畫中，系統會自動給
他檔案庫的寫入權限。

【Debian Miniconf3 時間敲定】 Debian Miniconf 和 [37]Linux Conference
Australia（LCA）舉行的時間連在一起似乎已經快要變成傳統了。因此，隨著
LCA2004 的時程規劃完成，Jonathan Oxer 也[38]宣佈 [39]Debian Miniconf3
將於2004年01月10日和11日在澳洲的 Adelaide

【供開發人員申請的 Sun Ultra 30】 Nathan Norman [41]說如果 Debian
計畫有需要的話，他很樂意捐出他現在用的桌上型電腦 Sun Ultra 30。Martin
Michlmayr [42]說如果有美國的朋友打算利用這台電腦，將 debian-installer
移植到 sparc 平台上的話，Debian 可以代為支付郵寄的費用。不過， Ben Collins
