【來自 Webb.it 的消息】 Federico Di Gregorio 撰寫了一篇關於 Debian 參與
[8]webb.it 會議的[9]報導。本會議於05月09日到11日在義大利的 Padova 舉行，進行
超過 1000 場的研討會。義大利的 Debian 玩家和許多對自由軟體有興趣的朋友互相交
流，還在幾台機器上安裝 Debian、互相簽署 GPG 金鑰，並且參與及主辦幾場研討會。
他們還向來訪的朋友展示由四台 Xbox 組成，並且運行 Debian 的叢集系統（cluster）。

【Debian MIA 調查】 James Troup [10]公告他將對一些失蹤（missing in action，
MIA）的開發人員採取行動。他在03月12日對 191 位似乎停止活動的 Debian 開發人員
寄出詢問信件。其中 34 封竟被退件而無法送達，此外有 28 位要求退休，10 位表示
仍在參與開發工作，而一共有 90 位開發人員未在兩個月的期限內回覆。近期內部份人
員的資格將被取消。

【掌握對 Debian 的捐贈】 Martin Michlmayr [11]表示，Mako Hill 將製作一份清
單，列出所有不是透過 [12]SPI 和 [13]ffis 這兩個非營利的 Debian 合作夥伴的捐

【選單中使用預設圖示？】 有人[15]建議當應用程式沒有提供圖示時，在
window-manager 的選單中，是否要為該程式加上一個預設的圖示。Lars Wirzenius
[16]反對這個構想，他認為圖示是一個程式的視覺象徵，不應該是任意的圖案。

【一些相當重要的孤兒套件】 Martin Michlmayr [17]表示他已將數個套件列為孤兒套
件。這些套件中大部份不是有影響發行的重大 bug，就是已經有一陣子不是由套件維護
者進行更新了。他希望能有自願者能出來修?正這些 bug，進而接手這些套件的維護工作。

【lm-sensors 的重大更新】 David Maze [18]指出，libsensors1 的 binary
interface 在 lm-sensors 2.6.5 到 2.7.0 間改變了，但函式庫的 soname
並沒有更改。雖然正確的做法應該是由該程式的作者來做變更 soname 的動作，但目前
他們仍未做出回應。因此，David 建議由他先來更動 Debian 中該函式庫的 soname。

【翻譯者變更文件格式所引發的爭議】 在 Apache 的維護小組與法文翻譯小組之間產
生了一些[19]爭議，原因是法文版套件說明的翻譯格式與原本的格式不一致。
Matthias Urlichs [20]表示，他認為有足夠的理由更改格式，因為英文文句通常比對
應的譯文要來得短。

【Testing 的安全性支援】 Chris Leishman 寫了一封[21]信，敘述為什麼 Debian
也應該要有 testing 的安全性支援。Matt Zimmerman [22]解釋說已修正的套件會自動
由 unstable 轉到 testing 中。如果 unstable 尚末包含修正套件的話，為 testing
及 unstable 製作修正套件其實只是浪費時間。

【參加 DebConf 3】 Joachim Breitner [23]問道，如果還不是正式的開發人員，[24]
DebConf 是否值得參加呢？Andreas Tille [25]回答說，過去在 Bordeaux 舉行的
DebConf 是他最具生產力的時期了，此外，最棒的是會場有很多高手可以幫忙解決問題。

【讓 GNOME 字型設定生效】 Sander Smeenk [26]發現明明他的字型設定都有儲存起
來，但是當他重新進入 X 時，這些設定都沒有生效。Ross Burton [27]說這是因為
Sander 並不是用 gnome-session 進入 GNOME，因此 XSETTINGS 資料庫無法被程式取
用（not populated）。在這種情況下，必需要在啟動 X 的命令稿中載入
gnome-settings-daemon。Mateusz Papiernik 則[28]說明了這些設定要如何寫到設定
檔中。

【說明文件譯本】 Denis Barbier [29]注意到目前對說明文件（manpages）譯本到底
該放到原來的說明文件套件中，還是要放到 manpages-xx 裡，大家並沒有共識。如果
一份說明文件譯本一開始被放在 manpages-xx 裡，但後來又被納入原來的說明文件套
件中（例如它被程式開發者放到 tarball 中）的話，如此缺乏共識將造成衝突。

【供準開發人員使用的套件庫】 Daniel K. Gebhart [30]公告 [31]Debian Mentors
Project 正式開始運作了。這個計畫提供一個套件庫，供已申請但尚未成為 Debian
開發人員的朋友使用。因為只有 Debian 開發人員才能直接將套件上傳到 Debian
官方套件庫中，歡迎這些準開發人員利用本計畫提供的服務。

【將 non-free 文件分裝】 Colin Watson [32]宣佈他終於將 doc-linux 中
non-free 的部份自原套件中分離出來了。分離出來的新套件為
doc-linux-nonfree，目前正在等待 ftpmaster 的審核。因為本套件版權宣告的文件相
當龐大，審核時間可能會有點長。只有不到 10 % 的 HOWTO 及 mini-HOWTO 文件被歸
類為 non-free。

【Debian GNU/FreeBSD 里程碑】 Robert Millan [33]表示他的 GNU/FreeBSD
chroot jail 終於可以獨立運作（self-hosting），而他也能在其中製作 glibc
2.3、GCC 2.3.2 和 binutils 套件。他提供了 [34]tarball 供大家下載，不過他也
明白指出，這個 tarball 除了拿來開發及修正 bug 外，是沒有任何用處的。

【以 DFSG 檢驗 LDP 預設授權的方式】 Branden Robinson 詳細[35]研究了[36]Linux
Documentation Project（LDP）的[37]預設授權方式。它是被 LDP 文件廣為採用的授
權方式。雖然他建議改寫其中一些章節，但這個授權方式其本上是 符合 [38]Debian
Free Software Guidelines 的。

【新 IPv6 套件】 Fabio Massimo Di Nitto[39]宣佈套件檔案庫將有一些改變。到目
前為止，我們的策略都是讓所有的 IPv6 套件版本編號和 main 中的同名 IPv4
套件相同。現在，打破這個規則的時候到了，將有兩個套件不依循這個規則，以加快
測試程序。一個套件是 ntp-unstable，這是 ntp 的 CVS 最新版（snapshot），除了
其中一個部份外，其餘完全支援 IPv6。另一個是 Daniel Stone 製作的 XFree86
4.3，其中包括了 X.org 提供的 IPv6 patch。

【Debian 憲章修正案】 Manoj Srivastava 提出一份修改 Debian 憲章的[40]正式提
案，希望能在選舉或一般決議上引進 Condorcet/Clone Proof SSD 計票。本修正案是
由選舉方式委員會（election methods committee）在相當的研究後所得到的結果。這
份修正案已有足夠人數覆議，規定的[41]討論期限到 UTC 時間2003年05月30日
23:59:59 截止。

【測試新的投票命令稿】 Manoj Srivastava 正在[42]舉辦投票來測試新的投票命令稿
（voting scripts）。新的命令稿無法在 potato 上執行（而 vote.debian.org 正好
是用 potato），不過現在暫時不研究這個問題，本次票選的統計將在他自己的機器上
進行。因為此次票選有兩個候選項目需要有過半數人的支持（super majority）才能算
勝選，所以這也是測試這個功能的好機會。本次票選的對象，是在九個顏色中挑一個顏
色，Manoj 並附註說：『願最好的顏色獲勝。』。

【增加對 Ogg 媒體格式的支援】 Ray Dassen [43]指出，在 [44]RFC 3534
中已正式指定了一個 MIME type 給 Ogg bitstream format。他希望 Debian
能儘量支援這個 MIME type。Ogg bitstream format 是用來包裝經 Ogg Vorbis
編碼後的音訊資料（The Ogg bitstream format is the container format
employed for the well-known OggVorbis audio code.）。Ray

【Debian 在 SCO 這個事件上的立場】 上週[45]兩度有人[46]問到 SCO（原名
Caldera，一家經營 GNU/Linux 相關業務的公司）宣稱 Linux [47]侵權的事件對
Debian 是否有影響。 Ray Dassen [48]認為，目前只有來自 SCO 這家快過氣的公司單
方面的主張和謠言，他們到現在還未能提出任何有力的證據。相 反的，有確切的證據
顯示 SCO 本身違反了 GPL，因為他們在其私有的（Unixware？）核心中引用了 Linux
核心中 GPL 的檔案系統程式。稍早 Open Source Initiative 對本事件發表了一份詳
