【Debian 上的 Mono？】 最新一期的 Mono 週報[5]（Mono Weekly News）報導 Alp Toke 發表了第一個基於 Mono 的媒體放程式 Platano[6]。Mono[7] 是 .NET 架構[8]（framework）的自由軟體版本。Alp 同時製作了 GNOME# 相關套件包放在套件檔案庫[9]中，讓使用 sid 和 woody 的朋友能用 apt-get 很方便地安裝這些套件。

【GFDD 中的 Debian 文件】 Gaetano Paolone 發出公告[10]說 GNUtemberg! Free Documentation Database[11]（GFDD）已經上線並穩定地運作中。GFDD 是一個供自由文件使用的資料庫，並且提供如索引、翻譯管理、自由文件書籍發行資訊、文件評等、統計及搜尋等功能。現在資料庫中共有 18 篇英文及 4 篇義大利文的 Debian 相關文件。

【Hurd 上的 SSH】 Philip Charles 表示[12] Hurd 沒有提供 /dev/urandom，但是 ssh 要利用它輸出的亂數來產生金鑰。正因為如此，雖然在最新的 Hurd 光碟[13]中有 ssh 套件，但預設是不安裝它的。Simon Law 指出[14]可以利用亂數產生器[15]（random translator）來模擬這個亂數裝置。

【技術文件作者專用的 Debian GNU/Linux】 在一篇針對技術文件作者的文章『無痛 Linux』[16][17]（Painless Linux）中，Bruce Byfield 簡單介紹了 GNU/Linux 及使用它的好處。文中列出了一些技術文件作者可能會感興趣的應用程式。Debian GNU/Linux 是該文作者介紹的 Linux 發行套件之一。

【Colin Walters 談桌面環境應用】 DesktopLinux.com[18] 刊載了一篇 Colin Walters 的訪問[19]。Colin 在十月的時候創立了 Debian on the Desktop[20] 子計畫。在訪談中他說明了這個計畫的宗旨，也談到了新的 debian-installer，以及為何他認為 Debian 的部份基本架構應該逐漸改用 XML。

【Debian 在桌面環境的佔有率】 DWN 這一陣子都用這個標題持續報導這個正在進行的『在桌面環境上，使用者較喜愛哪一套 GNU/Linux』統計[21]的現況。我們在此很高興地宣佈，Debian 此刻以 22 % 的得票率微微超過 Mandrake（21.7 %）暫居第一。從十一月這項調查開始後，一共收到了超過 2700 份選票，以及超過 8900 篇的回應文章。

【IEEE 的 Debian GNU/Linux 介紹課程】Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers[22]（IEEE）聖地牙哥分部的顧問網（Consultants Network）公告他們將舉辦一場長度為一個晚上的 Debian GNU/Linux 簡介[23]。本課程的目的是要讓參加者瞭解安裝程序及簡單的系統管理。課程將於一月十三日在聖地牙哥的時時樂（Sizzler）舉行，主講人是有系統管理員資格的 IEEE 及聖地牙哥顧問網資深會員 Alex Perry。

【製作小容量光碟映像檔】 Santiago Garcia Mantinan 說[24]他修改了 debian-cd 讓它可以產生較小的映像檔。這個修改過的 debian-cd 可以產生只有 debian-installer 和相關文件的映像檔（45MB），或是再加上最小安裝所需要的檔案（83MB）。Santiago 不知道該讓這兩個中的哪一個成為官方提供的映像檔之一。Tollef Fog Heen 認為[25]可以同時提供這兩者，但是 Jason Andrade 指出[26]太多不同的光碟映像檔不但增加映射站台的負擔，也會造成初學者的混淆。

【網路安裝】 Cassandra Lynette Brockett 說[27]她打算修改 woody 中的一個 boot.bin，讓 Debian 網路安裝的過程可以完全不需要使用磁片和光碟片。她已經成功地在 i386 平台上實作[28]出來，並且正在撰寫相關的文件。不過，因為通信論壇上的回應很少，她懷疑[29]是不是大家對這沒什麼興趣。

【與以 Debian 為基礎的發行者間的合作】 Javier Fern嫕dez-Sanguino Pe鎙 質疑[30]那些以 Debian 為基礎的 GNU/Linux 發行者願意合作的程度不如預期。雖然有像 Progeny 這樣的發行者把他們的成果回饋給 Debian，但還是有許多的發行者不願意將成果整合進 Debian。Javi 正試著協助 Linex[31]（只有發行西班牙語版）的開發，並將改進的部份回饋給 Debian。他想知道如何才能鼓勵其它的發行者提高他們回饋的意願。

【搜尋引擎再度上線】 Craig Small 宣佈[32] Debian 網頁搜尋引擎[33]回復了。它雖然支援雙字元（dual byte）文字，不過支援的程度不是很完整。此外，還需要各種語言的翻譯人員配合確認關於搜尋引擎的翻譯是否已經更新。儘管如此，Craig 認為有一個還算不錯搜尋引擎可用，總比完全沒有這個功能來得好。

【函式庫的版本】 Rob Browning 問[34]如果一個函式庫須要連結（link）另一函式庫，當後者有新的版本，重新編譯過的前者名稱（soname）中的版本該如何處理？如果增加前者的版本編號，可能會造成它和其它發行者的函式庫不相容。但是如果沿用原來的版本號碼，會讓使用它的套件無法使用，而且無法重新編譯。Junichi Uekawa 回應說明[35]他處理版本號碼的方式[36]，並指出[37]除非 unstable 中所有使用到這個函式庫的套件都同步更新，不然造成 unstable 的部份套件無法使用是無法避免的。後來，Rob 提出了他建議的方式[38]。

【在 GNOME 面板上監看 Debian】 Daniel Burrows 發表[39]了 apt-watch 的預覽版本，這是一個 GNOME 2 的 panal applet，用來檢查是否有套件更新。他將會有一陣子沒辦法花太多時間在發展這個程式上，不過他列出了未完成的部份。Emile van Bergen 認為[40]在有更新時不應該讓圖示閃動，以免造成使用者旳心理壓力急著更新系統而忽略了其它重要的事。不過，在使用 stable 的系統上，這倒是個不錯的方式[41]來提醒使用者有安全性方面的更新。

【預設桌布】 Stefan Schwandter 詢問[42]有沒有能在各種桌面環境（desktop environment）及視窗管理程式（window-manager）通用的設定預設桌布方式。Colin Walters 回應[43]說在若是使用 GNOME 環境下至少要安裝 GNOME 2.2 版以上，而他正試著把設定各種環境預設桌布的功能整合到 desktop-base 套件中。
