【2002 GNU/Linux 時間表】 一年將結束之際，正是我們停下腳步回顧這一年的時
候。Linux 週報[1]（Linux Weekly News）列出了一份 2002 GNU/Linux 時間表[2]
（timeline）。雖然全世界都受到經濟不景氣的影響，自由軟體依然持續地發展茁

【新的 Woody 開機磁片】 Eduard Bloch 自願[3]協調[4]製作下一個版本 Debian
的開機磁片相關事宜。Debian 3.0 的下一個更新版預計在 r1 發行兩個月後推出，
也就是說，至少還有一個半月的時間。新的開機磁片會修正部份平台上已知的嚴重
問題，並且會使用較新的 Linux 核心。

【尋求贊助】 今年年底，數個支持自由軟體的非營利組織在尋求贊助。對美國的
居民來說，這種捐獻贊助是可以扣稅的。自由軟體基金會[5]（FSF）有超過三分之
二的資金來自個人的損獻。FSF 最近發起了附屬會員計畫[6]（associate
membership program）。GNOME 基金會希望能提供部份的開發者交通費補助[7]，
讓他們可以參加一年一度的 GUADEC。而 Software in the Public Interest[8]
（SPI）則是接受各界對 Debian 計畫的贊助[9]。

【檢驗使用者是否存在】 Matt Hope 注意到[10]有些套件經由檢查 /etc/passwd
來測試使用者是否存在。他認為在一些使用如 NIS 或 LDAP 等其它的身份驗證機制
的系統上，這種方式會有問題。Matt Zimmerman 建議[11]他對這一類的套件登錄
bug，並要求這些套件的維護者改用 getent。

【GTK+ 2.2】 Akira Tagoh 回報[12] GTK+ 小組發表了 Gimp Toolkit[13] 函式庫
（GTK+）2.2 版。新版的函式庫和 2.0 版相容，不過和 libgnomeui 有介面上的問
題。因此[14]，GNOME 2 無法使用 GTK 2.2，但是 GNOME 2.1 卻需要這個新的
GTK+。所以 Akira 打算過渡性地把這些新版的套件放到 unstable 中。

【將有更多的 Alpha 及 Sparc 使用者加入？】 Jaldhar Vyas 告訴[15]我們
RedHat 官方停止[16]了對 Alpha 及 Sparc 平台的支援。而 Debian 不但仍然
支援這兩個平台，使用者對 Debian 提供的自由軟體、軟體修正、和及時的安全
性更新也相當地滿意。

【KDE 3.0.5a 的 woody 套件包】 Ralf Nolden 說[17]他已經把 KDE 3.0.5a 的
套件包上傳至 KDE 主伺服器中。這次上傳的套件中包括了最新的 KDE 安全性更新
。您可以利用 apt-get 從 download.us.kde.org[18] 安裝這些套件。Ralf 在第
二天也上傳了[19] KDevelop 2.1.4 的套件包。

【把 Debian GNU/Linux 放到一張 32 MB CompactFlash 中】 Bao C. Ha 解說[20]
他把 Debian 縮減到小於 32 MB 的方法。Bao 一開始利用 debootstrap 製作了一
個包含虛擬私有網路（VPN）、防火牆、路由器（router）等功能共 121 MB 的
Debian 系統。在移除裡面的文件檔案，並使用 cloop 核心模組（kernel module）
壓縮之後，他成功地將系統縮減為 27.6 MB。他所製作出來的映像檔[21]是供
OpenBrick[22] 使用的。OpenBrick 是一個針對開放原始碼／自由軟體解決方案
（solution）開發的小型硬體平台。然而，這個系統要使用非自由軟體、且只提供二
進位檔的一個特定 XFree86 版本。

【Debian 3.0r1 光碟映像檔】 Steve McIntyre 說[23]他製作了一來套用來把
Debian 3.0 更新為 3.0r1 的光碟映像檔。最初這一套映像檔是兩張滿滿的光碟，
裡頭包含了 Debian 支援的 11 個平台所需要的檔案。不過在採納 Jason Andrade
的意見[24]後，Steve 為每一個平台分別製作了更新用的光碟。雖然這種方式要佔
較多的空間，但是對使用者來說比較容易使用，同時也節省了用來傳輸的頻寬。等
到提供下載的伺服器恢復後（可能得要好幾天的時間），這些映像檔可以在這裡[25]
取得。

【清理 /etc】 Joey Hess 查看[26]他的 /etc 目錄，發現其中有許多在套件移除
時沒有確實清理掉的東西，像是無用的鏈結檔（symlinks）和目錄等。他有個解決
這個問題構想：製作一個特別的 Debian 套件，在它的 postrm 中尋找並清除其它
套件遺留下來的東西。

【重新編譯所有的 Debian 套件】 Junichi Uekawa 回報[27]了他執行 pbuilder[28]
的結果。為了重新編譯所有的套件，他從12月9日開始編譯，直到12月24日才完成。
除了 529 個套件編譯失敗之外，他成功地編譯了超過 6000 個套件。Gerhard Tonn
則是在 GCC 3.2 成為 Debian 的標準編譯器之前，嘗試使用它重新編譯[29]所有的
