歡迎閱讀今年第五期的 DWN，每週 Debian 社群快訊。Martin Michlmayr 在一篇[1]訪問（德文）中談論 Debian。Jonathan Oxer 告訴我們上週舉行的 Debian [2]Mini-Conf 非常成功，共有 117 位朋友參加。此外，Internet2 [3]說他們打破了之前的最高速[4]記錄，以平均每秒 923 megabits 的速度傳送了兩部 DVD 電影。

【Debian 的 init 命令稿系統】 Alexander Wirt [5]問道 Debian 為何不把 runlevel 3 到 5 拿來作應用，並於信中提出了如何規劃七個 runlevel 的建議。Matthew P. McGuire 指出在 LSB 中有[6]說明該如何配置各 runlevel。不過 Henrique de Moraes Holschuh 認為要改變現有的 init 命令稿系統（init script system）沒有這麼簡單，並且指出在他的一篇[7]文章中他說明了現有系統的架構，以及他建議的修改方式。

【新的 Debian 檔案金鑰】 Anthony Towns [8]公告了 2003 年用來簽署（sign）main、non-US 及 security 套件檔案庫中所有套件的[9]檔案金鑰（archive key）。這個金鑰搭配 [10]apt-check-sigs，可以讓您在使用 apt-get 時不用擔心碰到一些惡意或是被利用的映射站台。如果您有興趣想看看其它利用這個機制的工具，請查看 Google 或是 debian-security 論譠文件集。Colin Walters 及一些同仁正試著把這個機制整合到 apt 中。

【改進 Debian 中的遊戲】 Hwei Sheng Teoh 說他願意[11]協助維護遊戲的 Debian 開發者，幫忙他們解決一些常見的音效相關問題。舉例來說，有好幾個遊戲的音效處理程式（soundserver process）在遊戲本身結束後依然存在記憶體中，並不斷地消耗 CPU 資源。此外，Steve Kemp 也[12]注意到許多遊戲都沒有妥善處理環境變數（environment variable）。

【計畫領導人選舉接受來自各界的意見】 Debian 計畫秘書 Manoj Srivastava [13]宣佈今年在 IRC 上的計畫領導者候選人辯論會將納入各界的意見。在 [14]Debian Planet 上已經對此展開[15]討論，大家可以在該討論中提出問題或是提供意見。籌備小組將會挑出部份的問題，於辯論時請各位候選人提出他們的看法。

【虛擬主控台上的 Debian 標誌】 Dan McCombs 寫了一篇描述如何在所有的虛擬主控台（virtual console）上利用 [16]linuxlogo 顯示 Debian 標誌的 [17]howto 文件。基本上他寫這個 Mini-howto 的原因只是為了好玩，它唯一的功用是讓你的電腦看起來更炫一些。

【Woody 的 OpenOffice.org 1.0.2 套件】 Adrian Bunk [18]說他利用移植（backport）回 Woody（stable）的 GCC 3.2.1 製作了供 Woody 使用的 OpenOffice.org 1.0.2 套件。不過他也說明這些[19]套件只有經過很簡單的測試，如果您在使用上有遇到任何問題，或是對這些套件有任何建議，歡迎您來信告訴他。此刻，在 Debian unstable 套件庫中提供的 1.0.2 版套件共支援 i386、powerpc 及 s390 三種平台。

【Debian 在尼加拉瓜】 Georg Lehner [24]告訴我們 Debian 在中美洲正逐漸普及。有三所大學將 Debian 用於路由器及伺服器，而且最近當地最大的大學 Nacional Aut鏮oma de Nicaragua-Managua 針對系統管理者所舉辦的 Debian 研討會剛剛結束。此外，國立的工科大學 [25]UNI 提供了一個 Debian 的[26]映射站台（i386），並於最近加入了 [27]LinEX 計畫。

【Exim 4.12】 Sander Smeenk [28]說他製作了一個 Exim-TLS 4.12 的[29]套件包。因為擔心使用很複雓的 exim-tls 3.xx 設定檔的人在升級時會遇到問題，所以他遲遲沒有把這個套件包上傳到 Debian 套件檔案庫中。不過，Sander 還是希望大家可以試試看這個套件並把結果告訴他。

【停止使用 undocumented.7 線上手冊】 Bas Zoetekouw [30]打算要對所有還[31]含有 undocumented.7.gz 連結（symlink）的套件登錄 bug。現在 sid 中還有 693 個套件在使用這個檔案。在現行的規章[32]中，這個線上手冊（manpage）已經被廢除不再使用了。

【計畫領導者候選人】 在 Manoj Srivastava [33]宣佈計畫領導人的選舉程序開始後，到現在為止共有兩位 Debian 開發者參選：[34]Moshe Zadka 及 [35]Bdale Garbee。Branden Robinson 尚未決定是否要再度參選。他[36]希望可以透過他製作的問卷來瞭解大家的看法。
