It's amazing... xfs is the key trouble maker.

我也是發覺，對比較舊的機器來說，新版的KDE和GNOME簡直是慢到無可能用。事實是任何GTK2的程式都非常慢，GNOME的尤其厲害；我印象中，KDE已是比GNOME快了。

KDE和GNOME的字型的圓滑程度通常都比Windows好得多，但代價就是舊一點的處理器會吃不消；如果你的字型比Windows的字型來得圓滑，您可以見關閉這項功能，看看減少了處理器的負載後有多少改進。

關閉了圓滑字型的功能後如果還是太慢，我想就是記憶體不夠了

EDIT: 剛剛留意到有關xfs的討論，我可能要試一下 :ooops:

您的「語系設定」是中文嗎？如果是，將「時間格式」改成「Y年n月j日D」，顯示的日期就變成正常中文，不再奇怪了！
（可惜phpBB以為「Y年n月j日Dag時m分」太長了:-(）

我用的是 celeron 1.3G + 256M Gnome 2.8(Mandrake 10.2)，用起來感覺還不錯。舊版的 xfs 碰到亂碼的 page 就會卡在那邊不動，新版的似乎沒有這個問題。

用icewm或xfce都可以大大改善資源損耗，我的配備跟你很接近，用KDE雖然不是說非常慢，但是還是用起輕巧的wm快樂。

以apt-get install gnome 和 apt-get install kde kde-i18n-tw
兩個環境比較，KDE 好像比較繁重耶

理論上是這樣沒錯，但debian 預設好像把一些設定都關掉了
像是mandrake 的文鼎字型 比debian 的漂亮許多，有一種優美的感覺
debian 比起windows 我覺得比較丑，有誰知道要怎調整

kde 其實在跑 qt 系列的 application 是蠻快的。
