something in my /dev/ has gone

Hi All,

I use a sarge CD (2005/02) to install. After basic packages and updated stuff. I start to install x window by the following commands:

aptitude install x-window-system-core
aptitude install gnome

after that, I just wanna give x window a try and it failed. The error msg says that it can't find /dev/tty0

then when I did check /dev/, I found I got a very lite /dev/!! there are just about 40 folders/files there! and I also found /.dev/ which looks like the old /dev/.

Does anyone know what happened ?
